Will my prescription be filled at the NSHC Pharmacy even though my doctor is not employed at NSHC?

Yes. NSHC honors all active prescriptions with refills and will fill the prescription. NSHC currently fills several prescriptions from outside providers.

What is the NSHC Pharmacy refill/bridge supply policy?

NSHC Pharmacy and Medical Staff have a “Pharmacist Refill/Bridge Supply” policy to provide medication and/or other supplies for a short period until an appointment with the provider. Refills and bridge supplies apply to over-the-counter medication and chronic medications for specific disease states. Certain controlled substances cannot be provided as refills or bridge supplies.

Can a patient receive refills if their provider is outside NSHC system?

No. NSHC is unable to provide additional refills or bridge supply to patients with a provider not employed by NSHC or Alaska Native Medical Center. A pharmacist can contact outside providers to request additional refills or provide case-by-case options.

How will changes to medications be communicated to the patient?

Your case manager or provider will communicate any changes; your pharmacist is also available to answer questions.
